Dr. Megan Dunbar
Dr. Megan Dunbar, MPH, DrPH, is an expert consultant in the areas of research, policy advocacy, program design and evaluation, in particular for initiatives that aim to promote access to HIV services or key affected populations. Dr. Dunbar’s work emphasizes the promotion of gender equity and sex-positive approaches to HIV prevention, capacitating communities to generate and use data for advocacy and program planning, intervention design and impact evaluation, and a commitment to promoting the well-being of marginalized groups at risk for or living with HIV. From April 2010 through March of 2016, Dr. Dunbar was Chief Programs Officer at Pangaea Global AIDS. During much of that time Dr. Dunbar was resident in Harare.
Dr. Dunbar received her doctorate in public health from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007, with a focus on global health and evaluation. Her skills include the ability to oversee, manage and administer complex organizations and projects in the US and abroad, the capacity to develop and implement research to measure impact and improve programs, and the capability to synthesize evidence to effectively advocate for human-rights based policies at global, national and community levels that ensure equitable access to HIV services and programs.
Jonathan Levine
Jonathan Levine is an independent consultant focusing on the assessment, performance management and impact improvement of international development initiatives. He has worked in both donor and implementing organizations throughout Africa, primarily on HIV and child health-related programs. For eight years, Jonathan served as Program Director of Wild4Life Health’s primary health care systems strengthening program in Zimbabwe. Before that he managed a portfolio of grants for The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (London) concentrating on pediatric HIV, PMTCT, HIV advocacy and health systems strengthening initiatives. Among many short- and long-term consulting assignments, Jon co-managed a two-year, nine-country pediatric HIV public-private partnership on behalf of CIFF in collaboration with PEPFAR; assessed the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s portfolio of pediatric HIV and PMTCT grands for its board of trustees; and evaluated a girls’ education/security program in Malawi for UBS Optimus Foundation. Prior to his work in international development, Jon was an international business journalist for 15 years, most of that time writing and reporting for Business Week Magazine out of Paris and San Francisco, where he served as European Technology Correspondent and Bureau Chief, respectively. He holds degrees in Political Science and Journalism from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and lives in the Boston, MA, area with his family.
Dr. Joseph Murungu
A medical doctor with postgraduate training in public health and a Fellow of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare, Joseph Murungu is the Senior Technical Advisor for Pangaea. He serves in the board as an ex officio member and technical advisory board. Joseph is experienced in the design, management and coordination of public health programmes towards responsive health systems. Prior to joining Pangaea, Joseph worked at different levels of the health delivery system in Zimbabwe, including coordination of the national HIV care & treatment programme. During the 8 years he was with the programme, the number of people accessing HIV treatment increased from 125,000 to 954,000. Joseph has a passion for strengthening health systems towards the provision of quality, patient centred care.
