Pangaea Zimbabwe envisions an environment in which all people live healthy, productive, and quality lives. With this vision in mind, Pangaea Zimbabwe, today, is celebrating the No Smoking Day as a way of offering support to those who wish to quit smoking.
Smoking is an addictive habit which can led to harmful health consequences. If unattended to, smoking can lead to respiratory problems and disease such as lung cancer and asthma. To create awareness amongst people about the ill effects of smoking and to encourage smoking addicts to quit smoking, every year the No Smoking Day is celebrated on the second Wednesday of March.
This year’s theme is ‘quitting smoking doesn’t have to be stressful.’ The objective this year is to calm, encourage and offer support to people who want to quit smoking and letting them know that the process need not be stressful. One step towards quitting is motivation enough to realize the goal.
Many smokers will attempt many times to quit smoking. However, statistics show that only about 6 percent of smokers are able to quit in a given year! This indicates that smoking is a dangerous addictive habit and smoking addicts need as much support as they get to quit smoking. Use of varenicline medication or nicotine- replacement therapy can assist smoking addicts to quit.
