Pangaea Zimbabwe AIDS Trust (PZAT) is an independent Zimbabwean entity registered as a local Trust in August of 2012 (MA/909/2012). PZAT strives to transform the lives of people living with and affected by HIV by working to ensure their access to comprehensive HIV and sexual health services delivered in safe and supportive environments. PZAT as a partner in the ZimPAAC consortium has been working with the MOHCC to improve access to HIV prevention, care and treatment services for key and priority population groups in Zimbabwe and is expanding current programming to additional Districts in Matebeleland North.

Job summary

The Project Lead will be based in Harare and will directly support the Senior Technical Advisor and Country Director in the design, roll-out and day-to-day management and implementation of all Districts’ HIV prevention, care and treatment activities to Key populations (KP) and Adolescents Girls and Young Women (AGYW); providing technical thought leadership, strategic planning and relationship management of key stakeholders.

Key duties and responsibilities;

Working closely with the Project Coordinator, the Project lead will provide overall technical oversight of the Project, including support for the design, implementation, and monitoring/evaluation of HIV prevention, care and treatment program activities addressing the needs of KPs and AGYW; Lead, design and implementation of program activities focused on community awareness, behavior change and economic strengthening as it relates to AGYW and KPs access to quality health care; Ensure program activities are evidence-based, adapted to local context and reflect state-of-the-art knowledge and best practices for provision of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment to KPs and AGYW; Supervise and coordinate activities of technical staff at Head Office and serve as a technical advisor to field level counterparts; Establish and facilitate close working ties with community district health offices, and other key partners focused on HIV and health service integration and support of KPs and AGYW services; Document program activities and results and contribute to technical deliverables generated by the project required by funder; Represent the Project at national, regional, and international “knowledge sharing” forums; participate in national technical working groups and collaborate with other technical partners.

Qualifications, experience, and key competencies required

A degree in Medicine from a recognized institution; A post-graduate qualification in Public Health, epidemiology or a related field, with specific emphasis on community-level health promotion and/or education is a distinct advantage; Minimum three years’ experience in designing, implementing and monitoring large-scale HIV prevention, care, treatment and support programs; Prior experience in building capacity for key populations and health care providers in improving health through the use of participatory methodologies for planning and implementing local-level activities; A proven Key populations thought leader, technical Influencer, team and relationship builder, demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based and structural HIV prevention care and support interventions for key populations and linkage to services, and approaches to economic strengthening of AGYW; Excellent interpersonal, training, facilitation, team building and problem solving skills. Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues surrounding HIV prevention, care, and treatment of KPs and AGYW; Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain professional relationships and to work collaboratively with government counterparts and civil society organizations; Excellent written and oral communication skills, knowledge of local languages required; Demonstrated familiarity with the Zimbabwe health system at all levels, with a unique understanding of decentralized (district, community, and site-level) program management, service delivery, and demand creation structures; Willing to travel to project sites in Zimbabwe (up to 25% of the time).
